Mom Watched Live Video of Her 17-Month-Old Son on Day Care Website. What She Saw Occur in Real Time Left Her Horrified.

Knowing that her son's day care website allows parents to watch what's happening in classrooms in real time, Monica Kendrick took a peek for herself on Monday.

But what she saw inside the room at Kids R Kids of Stockbridge, Georgia, left Kendrick horrified.

She watched as an assistant teacher sprayed a can of air freshener in the face of her 17-month-old son as well as another child.

“So she went from one child that was sitting on the floor to my son that was standing right behind them and sprayed it in their faces,” Kendrick told WSB-TV in Atlanta.

Naturally she rushed over to the day care to get to the bottom of things, but Kendrick told WSB that an administrator who watched the video later said to her, “I can confirm that she did spray the children in the face, and we told her that she couldn't do that anymore.”

A document obtained by WSB describing the incident said it didn't appear the day care worker acted "with intent to harm or punish the children, however children should not be exposed to aerosol sprays so close to their faces because it could potentially be harmful to their health."

The document added that after the worker had a chance to watch the video, she was told about the safety issues related to spraying air freshener in children's faces. But she was "unaware of the health dangers" and then became "immediately apologetic" and said it wouldn't happen again, the document said.

The document also noted the incident happened just days after the same day care worker used her foot to wake up a sleeping child and pulled a mat from under a sleeping child.

In the end, the worker received a written reprimand that became part of permanent file, the document stated — but Kendrick wants the employee fired.

WSB said it didn't receive a response from the day care owner regarding the air freshener incident.

Kendrick told the station she's taken her son out of Kids R Kids and contacted the state's Division of Children and Family Services and other state agencies requesting an investigation.
