"He'll either be apologizing, or suspended, or both before Monday is over."

Bill Walton's had quite a life.

He played on UCLA's championship basketball teams during a run in early 1970s when they were literally unbeatable. Then the center went pro and went hippy, growing his hair and beard, wearing tie-dyed shirts, listening to the Grateful Dead — and still managed to help the Portland Trailblazers to an NBA championship in 1977.

After retirement he added commentary to game broadcasts — a natural fit for someone who's highly opinionated and possesses the gift of gab.

But during a broadcast Saturday for the St. Mary's v. Cal game, Walton uttered a one-liner that he might want to take back: "I majored in biology at UCLA — on sorority row."

Check it out:

The quip got some quick laughs after he uttered it; but it also was recorded and shared on the Internet, where its now receiving a lot of attention.

Comments on the Bleacher Report Facebook page run the gamut of "He's such an idiot!" to "Bravo!"

Here are a few more:

  • "Walton is the white Charles Barkley. I love him."
  • "That's really not something of which to be proud. What would make him report that? Makes him out to be a small, selfish and self-absorbed man, which is likely accurate, he probably is."
  • "He'll either be apologizing, or suspended, or both before Monday is over."
  • "I hope he never changes. Easily one of the most entertaining analysts out there. Wish he would do NBA games again."
  • "No one is allowed to have a sense of humor anymore..."
  • "He probably didn't realize he was promoting rape culture. Stay tuned for the forced public apology tomorrow..."
