Police spokesman Officer First Class Tyler Hunter says the resident confronted the man trying to force his way into the home and shot at the man in fear for his life. When officers arrived, he says they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and he was taken to a hospital in fair condition.

Hunter says the resident and his wife were the only people home at the time and they were not hurt.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are being investigated.
