RNC Files Lawsuits Seeking Hillary Clinton's Texts, Emails While At State Department

These records "will ensure that the public has information to consider whether former Secretary Clinton is fit to serve as the next President of the United States."

The Republican National Committee filed two lawsuits today under the Freedom of Information Act for State Department records during former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's tenure, including texts and emails with aides.

The first lawsuit asks for electronic communications between Clinton and top aides "via text or BlackBerry Messenger, as well as emails." The staffers named include the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate's then-Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills, former Director of Policy Planning Jake Sullivan, Undersecretary for Management Patrick Kennedy, and former IT staffer Bryan Pagliano.

Pagliano was granted immunity for cooperating with the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s server, the RNC said.

The second lawsuit asks for communications "between senior officials at the State Department and the Clinton campaign and other allied entities," particularly after Clinton’s time at State.

The Republican political entity had previously requested the communications under FOIA last October and December, but "no documents or information have been provided," according to a statement.

The RNC argued that these records "will ensure that the public has information to consider whether former Secretary Clinton is fit to serve as the next President of the United States."
