Grandparents Killed By Drunk Driver on Way Back From Family Easter Egg Hunt

Two New Jersey grandparents were killed and a father and his two children were injured after a drunk driver struck their vehicle on their way home after participating in a Friday Easter egg hunt.

Frank Cabezas, 25, has been charged with second-degree death by auto and three counts of fourth-degree assault by auto, as well as drunk and reckless driving charges, for ramming into the vehicle carrying the five family members, according to WCBS-TV.

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office said that Gregory Corso, 43, was traveling with his two children and their grandparents, Frank Corso, 79, and Audrey Corso, 75, in a Toyota Camry when Cabezas struck them in his Ford Explorer, according to WCBS. Whereas Frank and Audrey were both killed in the collision, Gregory suffered minor injuries and his 10-year-old daughter was flown to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The family had just been returning from an Easter egg hunt that afternoon, the police stated.

"This is a terrible tragedy that changed the lives of this family in a split second as they returned home from an Easter egg hunt. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Corso family," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said in a statement, according to New Jersey 101.5.

This is not the first time that Cabezas has run into trouble with the law. In 2012, he was arrested for driving while under the influence while underaged and in his underwear, according to New Jersey 101.5. In 2013, he was charged with marijuana possession and possession of the painkiller buprenorphine. He is currently being held at Somerset County Jail on a $250,000 bail.
