Islamic State group jihadists executed a 7-year-old boy in Syria in front of his parents after accusing him of committing an offense described as “cursing divinity” while playing soccer with his friends, a regional news agency reported Monday.
ARA News quoted a local human rights activist identified as “S.Y.” who said that the execution was carried out Thursday in the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa in Syria, just days after the boy was detained following accusations of swearing.
An Islamic State Sharia court swiftly ordered the execution of the boy whom the source identified as Muaz Hassan.
“The act was considered an insult to the Caliphate, regardless of the age of the boy,” a member of the court said, according to the rights activist.
Police took the boy to the town square and in front of hundreds, including his parents, shot him dead. According to the account, his parents collapsed after watching the execution.
While the Islamic State has boasted its executions of those accused of a variety of anti-Islamic offensives, this reported case appears to have claimed its youngest victim.
