Watch: Megyn Kelly gives an emotional final goodbye to her loyal Fox News audience

Fox News host Megyn Kelly gave an emotional final goodbye Friday night as she anchored her final show at the network where she has spent the last 12 years of her career.

Kelly announced earlier in the week that she had accepted a three-pronged role with NBC News where she will be anchoring a daytime weekday show, hosting a Sunday Night news show and co-anchoring the network's special political coverage.

But Kelly found stardom at FNC, specifically over the last three years on her weekly nighttime show "The Kelly File," and saying goodbye proved to be difficult for the seasoned news host.

"Night after night, you have invited us into your homes for some of the biggest moments in recent history. We have tried to live up to the honor of being there," Kelly said. "I am sincerely grateful for your trust, your patience and your good humor over the years."

Kelly added that saying goodbye is hard, but she's lucky to have a job that is "bittersweet" to end.

"I leave you knowing I am better for having been here. I hope you feel the same," she said. "Thank you for everything."

Kelly explained earlier in the week that one of the driving forces behind her decision to leave Fox was the opportunity to spend more time with her family, which her new daytime job will allow.

In the end, Kelly's show rose to be the second most-popular cable news show on all of television, falling a close second to Bill O'Reilly's "The O'Reilly Factor."

Kelly's contract with Fox expires this summer. It is not yet known when she will make the transition to NBC or when her new show will begin.
