A real sports miracle: Star NFL QB rescues stranded driver — and then they pray together

Ron Reeser was living out every motorist’s worst nightmare when his car broke down in Dublin, California, a suburb located between San Francisco and San Jose, on Tuesday — until, that is, a neighborly passerby pulled over on the side of the road to assist.

At first, Reeser, a San Francisco Bay Area DJ and music producer, didn’t recognize his famous rescuer. In an interview with sports website All22.com, Reeser recounted the incredible event.

“He said he was a quarterback; I thought he was a college quarterback,” Reeser said. “I asked him what string he was. He said, ‘First string.’ I asked him his favorite team. He said, ‘I may be biased, but the Raiders, because I play for them.’ I looked at him and said, ‘Wait … and I asked him his name. He said, ‘Derek Carr.’”

The 25-year-old Carr finished his third NFL season at the top of his game, drawing praise from analysts and fans across the NFL for his incredible play. Carr’s 2016 season, however, was cut short due to a leg injury he suffered just weeks before the start of the playoffs.

“He couldn’t have been more down to earth,” Reeser said of Carr. “He was wearing a hat and basketball shorts. I had no idea. He was just driving by and helped. It really made me feel good that there are good people still out there doing nice things for people.”

The two men discussed their lives while Carr drove Reeser to a nearby gas station, but before Carr left, he asked Reeser if there was anything he could pray for him. All22 reports Reeser named three things, and the two men prayed together.

“It was such an empowering moment,” Reeser said.

Reeser would later reach out to Carr on Twitter and thank him again for his assistance. Carr responded, “God bless you too! Anytime!!!! But hopefully not on the side of the road again haha.”
