LISTEN: Democratic presidential candidate quickly bails on interview when asked about abortion

It was a pretty straightforward question

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, abruptly ended a radio interview Friday when the conversation turned to abortion, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Hickenlooper claimed he was told the interview would be about gun safety. Denver radio host Dan Caplis informed the governor that his own staff approved an interview about all topics relevant to the Democratic presidential primary.

"Your staff told us no limits, everything is fair game," Caplis said.

When the interview turned toward abortion, Hickenlooper became agitated and suddenly told Caplis that he only had two more minutes to talk, despite Caplis saying the agreement was a 15-minute interview.

"That's a joke. I'm sorry, sir, that's a joke," Caplis said. "I ask you a tough question on abortion, which you refuse to answer directly, now you tell me you have two minutes? I'm sorry, that's wrong."

Even with the newly imposed time limit, Caplis attempted to make use of the time, again asking a direct question about abortion.

"Let's say that an infant is born alive after a failed abortion. At that point, should it be required that the infant receive medical care?" Caplis asked.

Hickenlooper again ducked the question.

"You're asking me hypothetical questions as if I'm the supreme decider on one issue or another," replied Hickenlooper, who, again, is running for president.

"But this isn't a hypothetical, sir, it happens in America," Caplis said.

Hickenlooper's avoidance of the question about medical care for abortion survivors is similar to that of Democrats in Congress who have rejected the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would require health care professionals present for abortion procedures to do everything they can to preserve the life of a baby who survives a failed abortion.

After some more arguing about the agreed-upon terms of the interview, Hickenlooper ended up just handing the phone to a member of his staff.
