Man brutally assaults 60-year-old woman with cane at Harlem train stop

A man brutally assaulted a 60-year-old woman with her own wooden cane, striking her 54 times over the course of just three minutes. The horrific incident was caught on camera at a Harlem train stop.

The woman was reportedly leaving the southbound 2/3 platform at the W. 116th St. station at Lenox Ave. when the suspect swung what appeared to be a black umbrella at her, according to NY Daily News.

The woman attempted to fight back with her wooden cane, but the man apparently hooked the cane with his umbrella and dragged the woman to the ground. Then he picked up the cane and began whipping the woman as she struggled to get back to her feet.

Video of the incident lasts for more than three minutes.

"Now you learn!" the man said. He appeared to be homeless and was carrying several garbage bags with him. "I was trying to be a brother to you! I help you walk up the stairs and you just happen to fall down!"

Even when his pants were coming down, the man continued to assault the woman. She attempted to defend herself, but she was repeatedly bludgeoned over the head and body with the cane.

When the woman eventually managed to grab hold of what was left of the cane, the man removed his belt and proceeded to assault the woman with it.

"I help you with your f***ing walker and you fall down and want to blame me!" the man yelled.

"Call the cops! Call the cops!" the woman can be heard screaming as she lies on the ground.

The report stated that the video was captured by an MTA station agent, who called the police about the incident. However, agents did not step out of the booth to help the woman who was being beaten.

The woman was subsequently rushed to the Harlem Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries, per the report. It is still not clear whether the woman and the man knew each other before the incident took place.

No arrests have been made.

The New York Post reported that a slew of violent crimes have taken place on the New York subway system over the past year, with one train operator being assaulted by a pipe-wielding man. A second incident featured a person being stabbed on the subway — both of which happened over the last weekend in August.
