Mayo Clinic offers anti-racism course to teach the 'foundations of structural racism' and 'anti-Blackness in America'

The esteemed Mayo Clinic is offering an "anti-racism" course to its existing staff members in hopes of teaching them about "structural racism" and "anti-Blackness" in the United States.

As first reported by PJ Media, the course boasts about introducing leaders in health care to "anti-racist" strategies and resources in order to "achieve racial equity."

Like most racial bias training, the course requires participants to be put through a re-education process of sorts and "evaluate their own biases" while exploring the "layers of assumptions, stereotypes, and biases, and systemic and institutionalized ideologies that lead to biased attitudes and discriminatory behavior."

Gender is also in the mix, as the course is considered a "starting point" for what the school believes to be the "complexities of race, gender, and class."

Faculty for the course includes Robin DiAngelo, New York Times best-selling author of “White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism.”

In March 2023, DiAngelo stated during an online seminar that "people of color need to get away from white people and have some community with each other."

She went on to suggest that those who do not engage in her teachings should not be in the modern workforce: "In 2023, we have to see the ability to engage in these conversations with some nuance and some skill as a basic qualification, and if you can't do that, you're just simply not qualified in today's workplace."

Also teaching the course is Dante King. King wrote the award-winning book “The 400-Year Holocaust: White America’s Legal, Psychopathic, and Sociopathic Black Genocide and the Revolt Against Critical Race Theory.”

The syllabus indicates that the course includes units on "Understanding the Roots of Racism and Bias," a "Power & Privilege" activity, and of course "Introduction to Antiracism Organizational Development."

The learning objectives for the course include the following:

• "Develop foundational knowledge of the historical and societal foundations of structural racism and anti-Blackness in America."
• "Identify modern-day impacts of the historical, cultural, legal, and social foundations of structural racism and anti-Blackness in America."
• "Describe tools and resources to operationalize knowledge through analysis of present day health, wellness, and economic outcomes."
• "Examine the impact subjective bias has on all systems, decisions, and outcomes."
• "Review the roles each of us play in upholding or disrupting systems of inequity and exclusion."

Pricing for the enlightening experience ranges from $265 for Mayo Clinic staff to $495 for those who are M.D. or Ph.D.
