House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) attempted to create a viral moment after President Donald Trump's State of the Union address when she ripped up her copy of his speech.
The president finished up his address by promising Americans that the best was yet to come, but Pelosi responded by angrily tearing the sheets of the speech.
The move was seen by some on social media as a response to the president snubbing her as she reached for a handshake before the speech began.
CNN's Dana Bash said that a source close to Pelosi told her that the incident was not planned and was instead a natural response to what she feeling during the president's speech.
When asked about why she tore up the speech, Pelosi responded, "It was the courteous thing to do considering the alternative. It was such a dirty speech."
Trump touched on many subjects during the address, including illegal immigration and the economy, but one noticeably absent topic was impeachment.
The president was impeached by the Democrat-controlled U.S. House, but is expected to be acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate.
