Silverman added in a follow-up tweet: "The irony of it being most lost on the evangelicals who preach Noah and ark and are so totally blind to it all happening right in front of their eyes."
What's the background?
Thunberg, a 16-year-old Swede, made headlines last month for sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on a zero-carbon yacht in order to address the United Nations in New York City regarding climate change policy.
Silverman posted a clip of Thunberg's recent interview with Trevor Noah of "The Daily Show," in which the teenager said individuals must "use the power of democracy to make our voices heard and to make sure that the people in power cannot continue to ignore" climate change.
What else has Silverman been saying?
In addition to her quip likening Thunberg to Jesus, Silverman also has declared:
- She was "very lucky" under President Donald Trump to get a star on Hollywood Boulevard "and I don't have to sew it on my clothes," in reference to the Holocaust.
- She was "scared," "shaken," and "freaking out" after seeing an ex-boyfriend fly a U.S. flag in his yard.
- She wondered if symbols she saw on a sidewalk were "swastikas" — which later were shown to be utility markings. Silverman still noted, "Innocent mistake for a Jew that gets 'burn in an oven!' at least weekly on Twitter. Still pretty close though."
