16-year-old girl used stun gun to escape attempted kidnapping, Maryland mom says

A teenager was able to escape an alleged kidnapping incident with a stun gun, according to the girl's mother.

Patricia Heffner of Brunswick, Maryland, said her 16-year-old daughter was walking to a friend's home on Knoxville Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday when a man pulled up beside her and asked her if she wanted a ride.

Heffner says that her daughter believed the man was the father of one of her friends.

"By the time she shut the door she realized it wasn't the friend's father, and she ended up, he locked the doors, and then he did two things to her and he was making sexual comments to her," Heffner said to WJZ-TV.

The teenager pulled a stun gun out, turned the alarm on, and shocked him with it on his shoulder. The man then stopped the car and the girl was able to get out and run home.

Police said they were looking to identify the man, who was described as a white man in his 50s with a pale complexion, bald with brown eyes and with a height between 5'7" and 5'9". He also has a mustache and a mole on the right side of his face.

Heffner showed the stun gun to WJZ and said that she had given it to her daughter.

Investigators said the vehicle was black and looked like a minivan.

"I'm scared," Heffner said. "My kids are not allowed to go outside anymore."

Police are searching for video from surveillance cameras in the area that might have captured the vehicle and the driver.

“If anybody has Ring cameras or anything, please go back and look at them,” Heffner added.

WUSA-TV reported that in Maryland, a person under 18 years old is not legally allowed to possess a stun gun, but Heffner said the police did not question her about that.
