Suspect transitioning to a woman fatally stabbed mother 58 times, tossed small dog to its death off 11th floor: Police

An alleged transgender suspect stabbed his mother to death at her home in New York City and threw her dog to its death off the 11th floor, according to police.

Andre Eugene, 36, was reportedly charged with murder, aggravated cruelty to animals, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the stabbing death of 58-year-old Donna Hyman.

Eugene allegedly told police that his mother's small poodle named Gigi bit him, which caused an argument at the victim's Brooklyn apartment around 7 p.m. on Jan. 19.

Gigi was reportedly discovered near the entrance of the apartment building after being alerted by Hyman's sister. The dead poodle was found with nine stab wounds and was suspected of being thrown off the Hyman's 11th-floor balcony.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said officers found Hyman’s body in the apartment covered in blood and with 58 stab wounds, including 26 wounds to the head.

Police said Eugene was naked and covered in blood when officers arrived at the apartment.

Eugene allegedly told police that his mother had killed herself, despite having more than 50 supposed self-inflicted stab wounds.

"My mother is dead. She committed suicide," Eugene purportedly told the police.

However, Eugene also claimed that he stabbed the small dog after allegedly being attacked, and then the mother stabbed Eugene in retaliation.

Eugene allegedly had a dog bite on the thigh and several "shallow" stab wounds on the chest.

Eugene was taken to Brookdale Hospital.

Kenny said investigators suspect Eugene's stab wounds were self-inflicted.

“We call them hesitation wounds. We believe it to be self-inflicted," Kenny said, according to the New York Post.

A neighbor said the son and mother had previously gotten into arguments in the past over the dog's incessant barking.

WPIX reported, "The suspect was transitioning to a woman, according to police. He works as a paraprofessional at a Brooklyn school."

Eugene purportedly had no prior criminal record.

The investigation is ongoing.
