Listen: Inspiring Robert F. Kennedy speech on race relations is just as relevant today

During times that try men’s souls, sometimes it helps to remember words from great leaders of the past.

Glenn Beck revisited a famous speech from Robert F. Kennedy on Tuesday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program,” calling him “a man of great compassion and great wisdom.” Despite being warned that he could be in danger from rioters, Kennedy spoke in downtown Indianapolis after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He announced the news to a crowd that hadn’t yet learned of King’s death, grieving with them and calling for unity and compassion in a difficult time.

Kennedy said in the stirring speech:

“What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or they be black.”
