Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation this weekend which, in effect, bans so called "sanctuary cities" by allowing local law enforcement to hold people who are in the United States illegally.
Opponents are vowing to challenge the new law. Lawrence Jones, in for Dana Loesch, welcomed immigration attorney and advocate Francisco Hernandez on "Dana" today to speak for them.
Hernandez claims the new law "does nothing." He defended Austin Sheriff Sally Hernandez, who had previously refused to turn over illegal aliens who had met bail to Immigration and Customs Enforcement without a court order.
The attorney brought up several points he felt were not met by the legislation, such as how much power the federal government has in the state and who will pay for the cost of holding illegal immigrants, which is $167 a day.
