Glenn: 'Voices will be lost' -- here's how Apple and Google are silencing 'alternative voices

What happened

Apple released iOS 11, an upgrade for your iPhone and iPad, last week. The upgrade includes many new features including a “reader mode” default setting, meaning that you will automatically view websites in a text only, ad-free mode.

Isn’t that a good thing?

In this video clip from today's "Glenn," Stu Burguiere and Glenn explore the less visible consequences of the latest Apple update. “By the way, [reader mode] is a feature I like, and most people like it because it is taking away some of the friction,” said Stu. He went on to explain, “When you load the site, Apple just takes all the text and it’s now on their product as if they paid for it, which they didn’t. And the things that you’re utilizing -- the ads to pay [journalists] -- go away. It’s kind of a big problem.”

It’s a huge problem,” asserted Glenn, adding, “Apple has just stolen all of our material, and they’ve just made it theirs....  But don’t worry, on Friday -- I don't know if you saw this -- it was announced that Google has hired a thousand journalists … they’re in on the vetting of all of those journalists. So what’s going to happen is Google and Apple and everybody else will just say, ‘you know what, just provide us the information and we’ll just vet it. We’ll just make it available.' So how do people with an alternative voice pay for anything?"
