Prior to Parkland massacre, Broward County Sheriff's department's morale was at an all-time low

Prior to Parkland massacre, Broward County Sheriff's department's morale was at an all-time low

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel has made himself pretty scarce since the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre. He's dodged media and refused to answer tough questions posed by reporters about how his department handled what unfolded that tragic day.

Sheriff Israel has been very vocal about placing the blame on Republicans and the National Rifle Association. Following the tragedy, the sheriff went toe-to-toe with NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, but didn't offer up a single solution nor take responsibility for his department's failures.

It's evident he's more interested in rhetoric than real solutions.

The confrontation with reporters

According to Local 10 News, an ABC news affiliate, Israel was questioned by reporter Bob Norman at a restaurant, but Israel refused to answer any of his questions. Israel went on to ridicule Norman's reporting. Unbelievable.

Here's how it went down according to the Local 10 News:

"If you're disappointed in me, I think there's a lot of people disappointed in you," Norman countered.

"You know, I disagree with you," Israel said. "You haven't heard?" Norman asked. "About the country being disappointed in you and the [Broward Sheriff's Office]?"

"No, not at all," Israel said. "My job is to protect and serve the Broward County residents."

"Did you do that?" Norman asked. "Did you do that?"

"But when the report is in, we'll have that conversation," Israel said.

"When the report is in, we'll have that conversation," Israel repeated.

Here's the report about the department being in disarray prior to the tragedy.
