Former Fox News anchor named as State Department spokeswoman

Fox News anchor Heather Nauert has been named as the new State Department spokesperson, the agency announced Monday.

The agency’s announcement did not say when Nauert, a former anchor for “Fox & Friends,” will hold her first press briefing at the State Department. It cited her “15 years of experience as an anchor and correspondent covering both foreign and domestic news and events.”

“Heather’s media experience and long interest in international affairs will be invaluable as she conveys the Administration’s foreign policy priorities to the American people and the world,” the announcement read.

Axios and Politico reported in February that Nauert was in talks to be named spokesperson for the agency, while she was still working at Fox News.

Jen Psaki, who served as spokesperson for the State Department during the Obama administration, is now a contributor on CNN. Marie Harf, also a former State Department spokeswoman during the Obama administration, is now a Fox News contributor.

President Donald Trump is an avid viewer of “Fox & Friends.” He once described it as “the most honest morning show.”
