Hillary Clinton says female Trump supporters 'disrespect themselves' — then they hit back

If you're a woman and a supporter of President Donald Trump, then you're "disrespecting" yourself, Hillary Clinton said over the weekend.

What did she say?

Speaking with MSNBC host Joy Reid on Saturday, Clinton was asked her thoughts on the women who supported Trump and wore profane shirts directed at her. The former Democratic presidential nominee responded:

When I see women doing that, I think, 'Why are they publicly disrespecting themselves? Why are they opening the door to have someone say that about them in their workplace? In a community setting? Do they not see the connection there?'

And I think that's one of the problems with sexism. We had such a public and still an ongoing movement to expand civil rights. Again, I'm proud of the progress, but we still have a lot of problems we have to confront.

Clinton further explained that she believes sexism remains a major issue in America and people are just starting to wake up and see it, just like they began to wake up and notice racism when Barack Obama was elected president in 2008.

What else did she say?

During the interview, which was used to promote her new book about the 2016 election "What Happened," Clinton also explained that Trump's presidency has so far been worse than she expected.

"I really had such deep doubts about his preparation, his temperament, his character, his experience, but he's been even worse than I thought he would be," Clinton said.

"I tried in my concession speech to make clear that we should all give him the space to be president for every American. That's what we want from our presidents, regardless of our partisan differences, we want to feel like the person in the oval office really cares about and is looking after everybody," she added. "And that just hasn't turned out to be the case."

Did everyone agree?

Of course, not everyone agreed with Clinton's claim, and some suggested that Clinton disrespects herself and other women:
