Supreme Court hands Trump a victory over environmental groups trying to shut down the border wall

The border wall takes another step toward fruition

The U.S. Supreme Court handed President Donald Trump a victory by denying to take up an appeal from environmental groups seeking judicial action to shut down the border wall.

The three environmental groups were contesting a ruling from a federal judge saying that the administration had authority to override environmental laws in order to build the border wall the president has promised to construct.

"Trump has abused his power to wreak havoc along the border to score political points," said Brian Segee, an attorney representing the Center for Biological Diversity, one of the plaintiffs.

"He's illegally sweeping aside bedrock environmental and public-health laws,' Segee added. "We'll continue to fight Trump's dangerous wall in the courts and in Congress."

The Center for Biological Diversity was joined by the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Defenders of Wildlife in the lawsuit.

The president's promise to build the border wall still faces significant opposition, especially since the Democrats were able to gain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the midterm elections.

Democrats and other liberals were outraged when it was revealed that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) reportedly agreed to provide nearly 2 billion in funds for the border wall. Schumer later denied that report.
