Fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe slapped with criminal referral

On Thursday, the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General sent a criminal referral concerning the recently-fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

The criminal referral comes just one day after 11 GOP members of the House sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department seeking further investigation into McCabe, along with James Comey, Hillary Clinton, former attorney general Loretta Lynch, and FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

We have not yet received commentary from the parties involved but there are many reasons to believe, based on past reports, that McCabe may have broken the law.

Last week, an investigation published by the DOJ inspector general found that McCabe had “lacked candor” (lied) on four separate occasions. Three of those false statements occurred under oath. McCabe allegedly authorized a leak about the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation, and then lied to investigators about it.

The OIG report paints McCabe as a serial liar who went as far as to blame his subordinates for leaks that he himself allegedly supplied to the Wall Street Journal.

After the leak made its way into the press, McCabe “admonished” a senior FBI official and told him to “get his house in order,” the report from the Obama-appointed inspector general reads.

Lying to the FBI repeatedly under oath is illegal, and many have received lengthy jail sentences for committing the same actions McCabe is accused of.

McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who followed the conclusions of an in-house investigation from the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).

"The FBI's OPR … issued a disciplinary proposal recommending the dismissal of Mr. McCabe,” Sessions said in a statement in mid-March, explaining why he terminated Deputy Director McCabe just hours before he could secure his full pension. “Both the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor − including under oath − on multiple occasions."

At the time, President Trump was more than happy to see McCabe relieved of his duties.
