BlazeTV host Glenn Beck has pitched in to help the Lincoln Museum hold on to a collection of historic artifacts associated with the nation's 16th president.
The Associated Press reports that Beck's charity, Mercury One, has donated $50,000 toward a $9.2 million debt owed for 1,400 Lincoln artifacts purchased a decade ago for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois.
The museum's fundraising foundation took out a $23 million loan in 2007 to purchase the artifacts. If the museum is unable to pay back the loan by October 2019, it will be forced to auction off the items to pay the debt.
“Lincoln’s mission didn’t end in the 1860s. His words challenge us yet today," Beck said. He urged listeners of his radio program to chip in and help the museum.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this piece misidentified Springfield, Ill., as Lincoln's birthplace. CR regrets the error.
