ICYMI: ‘The biggest fraud of our political lifetime'

Happy weekend, folks. Let’s recap the week.

This week’s big story: The Obamacare 2.0 bonanza

Thursday, we found out what’s in the Senate’s mystery health care bill. Here’s what we have so far.

The bill:

Conservative Review’s “legislative wizard” Daniel Horowitz has all the gritty details on the bill, which he says “will create a permanent cycle of bailouts, price increases, lack of choices, and endless debt – all blamed upon the free market and leading to single-payer.”

But don’t just take his word for it. The guy who designed Obamacare even says that it’s no longer a repeal bill.

The opposition:

Four GOP senators are pushing back against the bill, saying it doesn’t do enough to repeal Obamacare and lower insurance premiums.

The insight:

The biggest fraud of our political lifetime is that the GOP is opposed to Obamacare.

This week’s 2-star buddy comedy:

Before the big health care reveal, a few Dem senators got in a cab and tried to get a copy of the bill in an attempted PR-stunt.

Sorry guys, you’re just no match for Rand Paul and his trusty copy machine.

Meanwhile, in the real world:

YET ANOTHER health insurer has pulled out of the market, this time in Wisconsin and Indiana.

Georgia on everyone’s mind:

The fight for HHS Secretary Price’s old seat in the Georgia six was certainly one to watch.

Democrat Jon Ossoff, already beset with a ton of baggage, took heavy flak after he banned a reporter with a conservative outlet from election eve events.

Daniel Horowitz writes that the wins in Georgia and South Carolina should spur Republicans to get things done, but will the GOP’s big Peach State win make any difference in the D.C. swamp?

This week’s attempted coup:

As I discussed on the Steve Deace Show this week, though President Trump has (kind of) come to her aid, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is circling the wagons after more members of her party are calling for her to step down.

She says she’s “worth the trouble,” though. Oh, and she’s a “master legislator” and a “strategic, politically astute leader.” Her words, not ours.

This week’s Russian circus act:

The Russia narrative continues to unravel. Obama DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson told the House Intelligence Committee Wednesday that while there were attacks on our voting systems by the Kremlin, he knows of “no evidence” that votes were “altered or suppressed in some way.”

Oh, and after they got hacked, the Democrat Party refused help from DHS, Johnson added.

This week’s really good news:

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has been updated to fair condition and is “making good progress” after being shot in Alexandria, Va., last week.

Wounded Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner even left the hospital to throw the first pitch at this week’s Congressional Women’s Softball Game.

This week’s celebrity cameo:

U2 fans on the Hill were abuzz this week as the band’s front man, Bono, met with members of Congress and signed a get-well card for Scalise.

This week’s celebrity shame:

Another actor made another distasteful joke about assassinating President Trump. At least this one’s historically literate?

This week’s free speech fist pump:

“If ideas are strong, if ideas are right, you don’t need to muzzle the opposition. You should welcome the opposition.- Sen. Ted Cruz on campus free speech Tuesday.

This week’s burn:

Retiring House Oversight Committee chairman Jason Chaffetz made waves when he announced his departure from Congress earlier this year, and he finally broke his silence about why he's stepping down.

This week’s eye-roll:

It takes a true politician to claim kids shouldn’t be used as political props … while using kids as political props.
