Tuesday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin explained why he believes the media is the most important issue facing Americans today.
Levin read from an article he discusses in his upcoming book, "Unfreedom of the Press." The article, written after the 2016 election by CBS News digital political correspondent Will Rahn, detailed D.C. journalists' anguish after Donald Trump's victory. The reporter admitted the mainstream media missed the story, while smugly mocking the people — Trump's supporters — who knew better what was going on.
"He was right, wasn't he?" Levin said. "And his wise counsel has fallen on deaf ears, hasn't it? In fact, after he wrote this, the Democratic Party press, after Trump's election, unleashed a relentless and hellish campaign of insult and condemnation against the president and against the people who voted for him. And this, in part, is what 'Unfreedom of the Press' is about."
"We need to understand this; we need to digest this; we need to understand while we're watching TV what's being thrown at us. 'Well, lies, Mark.' No, no. We need to understand more than that: How conniving this is. Where this comes from. How they think. Why they think the way they think. And we need to counter this," Levin said.
Levin said because of this, he believes the press is the most important issue facing our society today.
"The press: It's an enormous force. It's got enormous power. Particularly in modern times. ... We are overwhelmed with information. But we're also really overwhelmed with propaganda. And when the president talks about 'fake news,' you see the so-called intellectuals and elites in the media don't understand. The president viscerally understands fake news. This is what Professor Daniel Boorstin meant when he was talking about pseudo-events. They create fake events. The president calls it 'fake news'; he's right on. And so much of what we receive is a concoction. So a committee subpoenas somebody, and so we hear about this all day long. So they know how to play the media, they know how to play the news cycle, and they know how to play it in a way that their friends in the media are going to promote it. And you pile up enough of those subpoenas, and then you have, quote-unquote, a 'constitutional crisis' on your hands. There's no crisis. There's no collusion. There's no obstruction. It's all fake."
