Marco Rubio slams ‘anti-Americanism’ of UN; says it’s time to ‘reevaluate’ US funding

Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., slammed the United Nations Thursday after the U.N. General Assembly voted to declare the United States' recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital "null and void."

On Twitter, Sen. Rubio said it was time for a "reevaluation" of U.S. funding for the U.N.

The U.N. voted 128-9 Thursday against the American decision.

Senator Rubio's suggestion follows comments by President Donald Trump threatening to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favor of the U.N. resolution condemning American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we're watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We'll save a lot. We don't care," Trump told reporters at the White House Wednesday.

Speaking today, American Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley said that the United States would remember those countries that vote against us and want to tell us where we can put our embassies.

Congress would clearly have White House support should it decide to defund the United Nations. Perhaps Sen. Rubio could introduce an amendment in the upcoming spending bill?
