Trump’s border family separation solution: ‘Don’t come to our country illegally’

President Donald Trump responded to reporters on the White House’s South Lawn Tuesday morning who asked for his solution to the undocumented immigrant parents who have not been reunited with their children.

“Well, I have a solution,” Politico reported Trump said. “Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That's the solution. Don't come to our country illegally. Come like other people do. Come legally.”

“I'm saying this very simply: We have laws. We have borders. Don't come to our country illegally,” Trump said.

The Tuesday deadline to reunite parents with children under the age of five was extended Monday. An ACLU attorney said the government had taken “significant steps” toward resolution.

Federal Judge Dolly Gee rejected Trump’s request Monday to update the Flores settlement and allow illegal immigrant children to be held for more than twenty days, which would have enabled more substantial background checks to be conducted on the parents who have entered illegally.
