This amendment to the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2018, offered by Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., sought to cut $10,234,000 from the EPA Environmental Programs and Management Account enforcement line and redirected similar funds to the EPA Spending Reduction Account.
In President Trump’s budget request to Congress, the administration asked for a 20 percent reduction in funding for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. However, Congress appropriated only a 15 percent reduction in spending. Rep. Biggs’ amendment would have brought Congress closer to meeting President Trump’s request and reduced the size of a bloated, out-of-control bureaucracy.
The House rejected the amendment 184-228 on September 7, 2017.
