This United Nation's treaty was deliberately brought up in the "lame duck" session of Congress to avoid electoral repercussions. This treaty would cede U.S. sovereignty and allow for a committee on the United Nations to insert itself into U.S. law. Already, persons with disabilities are afforded unique protections under U.S. law. The Senate ultimately rejected its ratification on December 4, 2012 by a roll call vote of 61-38.
