WTF MSM!? A Frank[en] discussion of the media double standard

Shocking allegations with a less shocking response …

Et tu, Franken? … Another day brings another accusation of sexual misconduct by a man in power. Today it is Al Franken, and the accused misconduct took place during a USO tour. Broadcaster Leeann Tweeden accused Franken of kissing her without permission and groping her breasts while she was asleep. She has shown a photo. To say the media’s response has been somewhat different from its response to the accusations against Roy Moore would be overly generous. For instance, the executive editor of Politico, Blake Hounshell, tweeted: “Et tu, Al Franken?”

Then there’s Joy Reid … MSNBC’s Joy Reid blamed … Donald Trump … for the Al Franken revelation. No, really, she did. Reid tweeted after the Franken story broke: “It seems too trite to say that presidents help us reveal who we are, but they do define the age. Electing Obama revealed some hard truths about race in America. Trump is doing so around gender and misogyny.”

Those dang “conservative media” types … Then there’s this hilarious tweet and accompanying story from The Hill: “Conservative writers call on Franken to step down after groping allegation.” Yep, it’s those pesky conservative writers again. Isn’t that the excuse the suddenly “woke” lefty media types are using for never going after Bill Clinton? It was those conservatives that talked about the allegations?

Levin on the warpath … After the story broke a few days ago about rampant sexual harassment on Capitol Hill, Levin TV host Mark Levin has been on the warpath. For the last two days on his radio program, Levin has called for McConnell and Ryan to resign over the scandal and outlined how McConnell has been “recklessly silent.”

Media narratives …

Only one story … The mainstream media have trouble when they have to cover more than one story at a time. They decide on a daily narrative and don’t stray from it. Well, it isn’t really trouble; it’s a choice. CNN’s media critic/cheerleader admitted last month that his network covers only one major story at a time when he chided Fox News for focusing on Uranium One and the Fusion GPS-Clinton connection. Now it’s Moore all the time.

Stelter chides Kellyanne Conway … Stelter decided to “mansplain” on Twitter that presidential aide Kellyanne Conway was complaining that all the media wanted to talk about was the Moore scandal. That’s pretty much true, Brian. It’s been a week, and the Moore story has been almost the only focus on your network. You’ve given more time to this than to the recent atrocities in Las Vegas or Texas or the terrorist attack in NYC. All of those stories were gone after a few days. Yet the Moore story lingers on.

Speaking of Vegas … Conservative Review social media wizard and author of Footnotes — the award-worthy daily email — has continued to ask questions about what happened in Las Vegas. The timeline keeps changing, and the media isn’t covering it. He asked more questions in yesterday’s email.
