WTF MSM!? Surviving the Tax-pocalypse

Regurgitating left-wing talking points …

Totally unbiased … After the House of Representatives passed sweeping tax reform legislation yesterday, the Associated Press tweeted: “BREAKING: House passes first rewrite of nation's tax laws in three decades, providing steep tax cuts for businesses, the wealthy.” Let’s unpack this tweet. This is a straight news headline, not the headline to an opinion piece. It editorializes what happened with left-wing talking points. Our journalists are so biased they don’t even see it.

Or do they? … CNN’s media critic/cheerleader Brian Stelter reacted vociferously to the Associated Press tweet. In his daily email, he uncharacteristically admitted that the media has been echoing left-wing talking points on the tax bill. He then mused what that meant, not for the truth, but for the reputation of the media. He was most upset that journalists, acting like the biased media they are, would give more credence to conservatives who attack them. Um, didn’t you just prove our point, Brian?

“Your job is to use the Democratic talking points” … Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell began the answer to a loaded question about the tax bill saying he knew the reporter’s “job is to use the Democratic talking points.” While I’m not the biggest fan of McConnell, he is absolutely right in this instance. The misreporting and misleading on the tax bill have been epic, even by MSM standards. The Free Beacon’s Cameron Cawthorne has more.

People like the policy …

Disconnect … What has been the result of the constant media onslaught on this tax bill? The American people, when polled, say they don’t like it, in great numbers. But a funny thing happens when you look at the polling of the individual policies contained in the bill. There is broad-based support. I took a look at the disconnect — and what it means when people start seeing more money in their paychecks come February — in a Facebook Live yesterday.

Um, really? … “Today” host Savannah Guthrie interviewed Speaker Paul Ryan this morning. After reading of a litany of left-wing anti-tax cut talking points and quoting unnamed “CEOs” who said they wouldn’t reinvest tax savings, Guthrie went for what she thought was the kill. Guthrie asked Ryan, “Are you living in a fantasy world?” Really, Savannah? You worked with a long-term sexual predator and never noticed it, and you have the gall to ask if someone is “living in a fantasy world?” That’s hard to believe.

Felony bribery? … The rules don’t apply to celebrities. At least that is what they think. Former “The View” co-host Rosie O’Donnell straight-up offered bribes to two members of the United States Senate last night via Twitter. She offered Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., two million dollars each to vote against the tax cut package. Yes, really.

At The Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro explained how O’Donnell violated the law. He linked to the relevant federal statute and asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to open an investigation. Rosie responded in a NSFW way. Pass the popcorn.
