'This is the fun we were all promised': Glenn Beck reacts to Trump-Pelosi showdown

Please, Nancy, keep punishing us

President Donald Trump released a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday, postponing her "seven-day excursion" to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan, less than one hour before she and other Democrats were scheduled to depart.

The White House released the letter to Pelosi a day after she sent President Trump a letter suggesting that his State of the Union address be postponed or canceled while the government shutdown continues.

"This is the fun we were all promised," Glenn Beck said on Friday's radio program. "We were all told that if Donald Trump was elected, it would be fun. Not a lot of days have been fun. Yesterday was fun."

Glenn read the President's sarcasm-laced letter:

Dear Madame Speaker:

Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 836,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.

I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!

Sincerely,

President Donald Trump

Glenn and Stu agreed that Pelosi's threat to cancel the State of the Union address was more of a gift than a punishment.

"They're playing games with this, obviously, and they want to cancel the State of the Union," Stu said. "Make it a letter. That's what it used to be. It would be great if they brought it back to a letter. I hope they do that. Please, Nancy, keep punishing us."

They discussed the "pomp and circumstance" surrounding the State of the Union address and compared it to the British Parliament debate over Brexit.
