"Mandate?"
In a post-election message to his union members, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka congratulates the unions on a job well done during the midterm election cycle, crediting them for Democrats maintaining majority control in the Senate.
In addition, Trumka claims the election has served up a "mandate for creating jobs and fixing the economy." While the economy was widely reported as voters' No. 1 concern when casting their ballot, Trumka claims the mandate is an anti-Republican one favoring liberal policies rather than conservative.
With the White House perched just over his right shoulder, Trumka also claims that President Barack Obama called him the morning after the election to personally thank him and his union members for making the difference in the 2010 elections.
