Christian College Takes Heat for Firing Gay Soccer Coach

"really heartbraking"

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (The Blaze/AP) — Belmont University has come under fire for forcing out their women's soccer coach, who her players say was let go for telling them she is expecting a child with her same-sex partner.

Sophomore Brandi Phillips says for Lisa Howe to be gone over something "so wrong is really heartbreaking."

Music industry executive and major donor Mike Curb wants the private Christian school to rehire Howe and "act like Christians." Students, including some of Howe's players, held a three-hour protest Wednesday afternoon pushing for a change allowing for freedom of sexual orientation. In response, university President Dr. Bob Fischer said the university does not discriminate:

In a statement from her attorney, Howe tells The Associated Press she misses her team but the policies and attitudes at Belmont would have to change for both her and her family to feel safe and welcome.
