LONDON (AP) — A climber who survived a plunge of 1,000 feet (300 meters) from one of Britain's highest mountains still plans to scale Everest this year.

Adam Potter, 36, of Glasgow, slipped on an icy patch off the summit of the 3,589 foot (1,093 meters) Sgurr Choinnich Mor in Scotland on Saturday.

Potter tumbled down the steep slopes — flying off cliffs — but somehow managed to land. Rescuers were astonished to find him standing up reading a map when they arrived.

David Gibson of Scotland's mountaineering council says his survival was "purely a matter of luck."

Potter was discharged from a Glasgow hospital Monday afternoon — and promised he is still determined to climb Everest later this year.
