Hilarious 1994 'Today' Show Clip Allegedly Costs Poster His Job

Last week as the world buzzed about Egypt's riots and the coverage being disbursed thanks to Twitter, Facebook, and the web in general, a 1994 video clip from the Today Show surfaced. On the very brief clip we saw Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric wondering about this new-fangled communication system called the Internet.

The clip went viral in a matter of hours and today we learned that viral videos can have a price. Washington Post blogger/columnist Rob Pegoraro tweeted that the gentleman who posted the clip has been fired.

One might hope that NBC would appreciate the buzz created by this classic clip.  They did, for about a minute when they actually played it on the current Today Show.

This reporter would hope someone at NBC re-thinks the firing. It's not like this was the WikiLeaks of morning television.
