February 21, 2011
It was almost midnight on Saturday night, Mahlon Mitchell, president of the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin spoke with Oliver Dykstra, a reporter from The Uptake and appears to have offered up financial concessions from his union in order to save the collective bargaining rights of the teachers union and others.
Union President Mitchell makes his offer starting at the 11:54 mark of the interview;
"Us as firefighters, we have been exempt from this bill, in the original bill there is a 5.8% pay into pension and a 12.4% pay into healthcare benefits. We have came out and openly said, for the betterment of the government, for the betterment of the state, we don't mind helping to pay for that. We don't want to price ourselves out of a job."
