National Security Risks': White House Explains Decision to Withhold OBL Photo
May 04, 2011
"There is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden."
In an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes that occurred earlier today, President Barack Obama explained why he chose not to release the picture of Osama bin Laden dead. At a White House press briefing today, Jay Carney read from the transcript of that interview.
In the interview, the president explained his reaction when he first saw the pictures of Osama bin Laden dead. "It was him [OBL]."
And, to underscore that point, the president noted that as a result of DNA testing and sampling, "there is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden." He also said that he did not want the pictures to be used as incitement or as propaganda tools. "It would create some national security risks."
