I'm not drunk, just disinfected! The Hand-Sanitizer Defense.

I'm not drunk, just disinfected! The Hand-Sanitizer Defense.

There is a good chance that you know someone who uses those alcohol-based hand sanitizers several times a day, every day. But did you know that kind of use can cause a positive response indicating the presence of alcohol in a person who does not even drink?

A University of Florida study has the results;

For the average person who uses a hand sanitizer only a few times a day, the amount of alcohol absorbed through the skin would likely not show up on a urine test.

But for those who have occupations that require frequent use of hand sanitizers, such as doctors and nurses, false positives on alcohol tests could occur.

This very second, somewhere in Lawyerland, there are probably thousands of legal professionals reading this and thinking, 'Hand-sanitizer made my client test positive for alcohol.'
