Wacky & Wild: Man Hijacks Fire Dept. SUV and Chases Police Around Airport
May 27, 2011
The video you're about to see is as nutty as the headline. Yes, you will actually see a man in a hijacked SUV chasing police around an airport. It all happened at Ireland's Cork Airport, and yes, it does look like something out of a "Dukes of Hazard" episode.
According to the automobile website Jalopnik, the culprit is 37-year-old Edmond Stapleton, who stole two fire department vehicles at knifepoint at different points throughout the day. The video below shows his second hijacking. It also shows him multiple times narrowly missing police as he does figure eights and other driving-school-dropout maneuvers. Jalopnik explains the end result:
The chase picks up a few minutes into the encounter as police start chasing the SUV and then he starts chasing them. Eventually, a fire truck tries to help. It takes a few more minutes but eventually every police vehicle in all of Cork arrives to put him in jail.
By the way, there is a mild CONTENT WARNING for language -- but that might not be surprising considering people thought that at different times throughout the chase they were going to witness someone's death:
