Indy 500's heartbreaking finish for the National Guard car

Indianapolis 500 rookie driver JR Hildebrand was behind the wheel of the National Guard Indy car and leading the race on the final lap.

By all estimates, it appeared that Hildebrand was headed to Victory Lane. And then, on the very last turn of the last lap, with less than a mile to the finish line, the unthinkable happened.  Hildebrand hit the wall.

JR Hildebrand was not injured and took second place, sliding across the finish line in his wounded car, forced to watch Dan Wheldon pass him and win the Indianapolis 500 for a second time.
