Four separate telescopes make up the VLT in Northern Chile. And just how powerful is the VLT? According to their website;
the VLT can reconstruct images with an angular resolution of milliarcseconds, equivalent to distinguishing the two headlights of a car at the distance of the Moon.
The remote location of the VLT helps the telescopes get clear images of the heavens. How remote it the place? Again, we defer to their website;
The skies over the ESO sites in Chile are so dark that on a clear moonless night it is possible to see your shadow cast by the light of the Milky Way alone.
This eight-minute video shows some of the most amazing images captured of this brilliant piece of technology.
