When Anthony Weiner became entangled in a sex scandal back in June, the news media seemed endlessly ablaze with new developments and details about the former Democratic congressman's online affairs. Fast forward more than a month later and Rep. David Wu, D-Ore., has his own sex scandal. Except he isn't receiving nearly as much media attention as Weiner did. What gives?
Part of that is obvious: Weiner's name is Weiner. But there's also this element, pointed out Monday in a tweet by Slate magazine's political reporter Dave Weigel:
Though Wu said Monday that he won't seek reelection in 2012, if there's one person that hopes the debt negotiations continue to drag on, it's probably him.
