This leaves a bitter taste in my mouth:
The ice creamy powers that be at Ben & Jerry's are taking an official stance and siding with those in the Occupy Wall Street movement. It's always good to have someone with delicious products on your side. Even protesters need a snack sometimes. On the company's site, the B&J cows hold up signs with "Occupy" on them and say they stand with the other 99%.
After outlining the issues that have been taken on by the quickly spreading movement, which began, of course, on Wall Street, the ice cream experts explain why they're choosing to align themselves with the occupiers.
Here's the, er, big corporation's note of support for the, er, anti-corporate protesters:
We know that words are relatively easy but we wanted to act quickly to demonstrate our support. As a board and as a company we have actively been involved with these issues for years but your efforts have put them out front in a way we have not been able to do. We have provided support to citizens' efforts to rein in corporate money in politics, we pay a livable wage to our employees, we directly support family farms and we are working to source fairly traded ingredients for all our products. But we realize that Occupy Wall Street is calling for systemic change. We support this call to action and are honored to join you in this call to take back our nation and democracy.
Looks like it'll be Häagen-Dazs occupying my tummy from now on.
