Speaking at the University of Colorado on Wednesday, President Obama tried relating his humble beginnings to the mounting debt college students face upon graduation. He poked fun at his wife Michelle to illustrate:
"I was raised mostly by a single mom and my grandparents. And Michelle, she had sort of a 'Leave it to Beaver' perfect family," he said to laughter. "She did. They were wonderful... By the time we graduated from law school, we had between us, about $120,000 worth of debt. We combined and got poorer together. So, we combined our liabilities. Not our assets."
Talk about a ball and chain.
