Fire Alarm Interrupts NBC Nightly News, Anchor Brian Williams Continues with Broadcast

It's not often, if ever, that a live news program is interrupted by a fire alarm, but that is precisely what happened during Tuesday's broadcast of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. Williams, however, stayed cool under pressure, and continued delivering his report despite the blaring background noise.

Mediaite reports:

Tonight’s broadcast of NBC Nightly News began on a high note– literally, the high-pitched sound of a fire alarm. The studio from which Brian Williams was broadcasting appeared to have scheduled a test of the fire alarm system to start just as the news report began, interrupting Williams as he tried to report on the news of American Airlines’ dire economic situation.

The alarm went off about five words into the NBC broadcast, when Williams noted to the audience that it was a fire alarm going off, before finishing up the story and tossing to reporter Tom Costello. The alarm continued through the report, and Williams clarified that “there is no danger to us,” that the alarm was merely an inconveniently scheduled “announcement.”
