Homosexuality Is a Sin': Rick Perry Tells Bisexual Teen Why He Opposes Gays in the Military
December 19, 2011
"This is about my faith...I hate the sin but I love the sinner."
Texas Gov. Rick Perry got put in the hot seat by a 14-year-old, allegedly bi-sexual young woman at a stop in Decorah, Iowa, last night. The girl challenged Perry on his stance on gays in the the military.
She interjected into an otherwise jovial exchange after the campaign event, and with cameras rolling, asked Perry:
"Im just wondering why you are so opposed to gays openly serving in the military and wondering why you want to deny them that freedom when they're fighting and dying for your rights."
Perry handled the loaded question with poise, though his answer did meander a bit. Below is the gist of of what he said:
"This is about my faith…there are a whole host of sins, homosexuality being one of them, I'm a sinner and so I'm not gonna be the first one to throw a stone, it's just like the Boy Scouts…that again is one of those issues that I don't agree with… i don't agree that openly gays should serve in the military…Don't ask don't tell was working… I hate the sin but i love the sinner"
