Al Sharpton: Throwing himself in front of the camera since 'Soul Train
February 02, 2012
When news broke yesterday of "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius's death, many people paid homage to the show and Cornelius for helping move black entertainment into the mainstream.
Al Sharpton sort of did that on his MSNBC show last night. He called Cornelius "one of the coolest, hippest hosts on TV." There's no doubt if Cornelius were alive today, he'd say the same of Sharpton, though resist hemuchmight.
But he also marked the somber occasion by showing an old clip from when he himself was on "Soul Train." In the clip, a 19-year-old Sharpton presents an award to the late James Brown. Same hair.
