All-Clear Given After World Financial Center Evacuated Over 'Novelty Grenade
April 12, 2012
A World Financial Center building across from the World Trade Center in New York was briefly evacuated midday Thursday after a suspicious package was found.
CNN reported an all-clear was given around 12:20 p.m., and that the package discovered was a "novelty grenade" or a "toy grenade."
According to WNBC-TV, authorities ordered an evacuation of the 44-story building after a private security guard spotted the item during a routine X-ray screening and notified police. The package came through the mail, the station reported.
The item was a toy grenade mounted on a plaque that read "Complaint Dept. Pull Pin," police told the station.
